STUBE Idea

"Many ordinary people,
at many ordinary places,
taking many small steps,
can change the face of the world."

There can be no development without the development of mankind. Humans are both the subject and object, the engine and obstacle to development. The key therefore is to invest in people and to foster and promote their personal competence and expertise.

STUBE-BW faces up to the oft-evoked requirement of human resource development. STUBE-BW gives it meaning and enables interactions and the meeting of people in all its facets in addition to the provision of information and knowledge.

Development and Goals of STUBE-BW

  • History and Development

The realisation that the educational courses offered in Germany - which are tailored to the economic, social and cultural conditions of Germany - do not fulfil the educational needs of students from Africa, Asia and Latin America, and that especially self-sponsored students in contrast to those on scholarship programs do not receive any guidance, led to thoughts as to how to deal with this development-deficit.

The STUBE program was thus established as a body independent from the universities. This has proved to be very instrumental for STUBE as it has made possible the integration of various organisations and institutions from the academic, foreign students and development fields.

With this STUBE has acquired a unique character of its own with a strong autonomy. This also comprises intensive involvement of the students in the formation, implementation and further development of the programs. This results in a great resonance with the target group and they are able to identify with the programme better.

  • Goals

  • STUBE takes the human, social and political aspects and orientations of its participants very seriously. STUBE strives to sensitize and support democratic, incorruptible personalities who shall develop and sustain these qualifications in a continuous, long-term process and thus contribute to the political renewal of their countries.

The general goal is to aid the students in reflecting during their interactions. This spurs the students to confront the reality in their home countries at a social, professional and personal level.

  • STUBE Baden-Württemberg

  • In 1983, the first exemplary holiday academy for students from Africa, Asia and Latin America was held in Baden-Württemberg. STUBE-BW is the oldest of all STUBEs, having been formed in 1983.

In 1997, STUBE-BW came under the sponsorship of Protestant Academy Bad Boll. As the Academy also undertakes social-related education work, the cooperation has proved fruitful and has been an enrichment for both parties, resulting in diverse co operations.

Currently there are 11 STUBEs in Germany and this has resulted in a countrywide STUBE network.
